I googled "moonvine" and got some interesting results. Funny that I hadn't done this before. Not me. Just saying.

I have lots to write here. How many of you know the story behind the phrase "burn the boats"?

It is my new mantra. I love it. You should love it too. It's pretty potent. Lets all have a big love fest make like jizz shakes.

My new Mac Book pro is amazing. My new place is amazing. You are amazing. The world, today, is amazing.

I woke up this morning in an astoundingly great mood. I am going to ride this mega watt wave till its done and dry. It may not last. Holding on tight. Happy New Year to everyone. I love 2008.

I determined years ago that the google-able moonvine wasn't you.

Also, I've been in a very good mood...and not artificially sweetened.  Sharp, performing well, working my ass off and still very happy sort of mood.

New MacBook Pro!  I'm waiting for the subnotebook and a bundle of cash to fall from the sky.

I didn't get past the front page, but that alone was pretty awesome.

When I think of burning boats, I think of viking funerals.

Vikings! by moonvine (2.00 / 0) #14 Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 02:43:37 PM EST
Valhalla! I think of moving the fuck on, from whatever the past has wrought- good, bad, doesn't matter. Makes me want to fight my battles to the death, and conquer all that is stagnant inside. It inspires me, feeds and fuels my fires. It raises the passion of the warrior within, and so sweetly =)

[ Parent ]

That reminds me of something by theboz (4.00 / 1) #21 Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 03:51:08 PM EST
Your post reminds me of the Viking Kitties flash animation because it both focuses on the violence of vikings and the sweetness of kittens, as well as Valhalla.

Anyway, I know what you mean, but I take a different approach I guess.  I leave as many options open as I can, and only burn bridges intentionally when I find it satisfying.  As far as the "passion of the warrior within" I have the opposite problem from you.  I can be a very aggressive person by nature and prone to anger.  As a result, since my childhood I have worked to control all of that, although sometimes I go too far and appear meek.  I will tell you this though, if you want to accomplish your goals, you have to be aggressive and take calculated risks.  I have learned that later than I would like.  You also have to let go of fears and cares to a degree.  It's sort of a weird thing but I've been trying a non-buddhist approach that requires me to stop caring so much about things and just let what happens as a result of my actions happen.  It is easier to get what you want when you act like you don't care if you want it or not, while you try to get it.  At least, this seems to be working out for me.

For example, I've found that it is easier to get paid more at a job if you act like you don't really want the job.  It's like taking the idea of not appearing desperate to a new level.  By being unconcerned, others will assume that you are calm for a good reason, and follow your lead.

cuteness kitty rowr! rowr! by moonvine (2.00 / 0) #26 Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 07:55:04 PM EST
I think burning bridges and burning boats are a little different. One is to get somewhere, need based- you need that bridge. The other is destroying your very way back, yourself, so that you remain and not only face your enemy but destroy them as well. The latter is survival based and the first: "well, I may need this in the future, so I must be careful as to keep it open."

But then again it can be argued that they actually imply the same things. For me, burning the boats seems the most fitting to my situation: the war that is waging between my present and future against the powerful pull and memories of my past sabotaging and keeping stagnant any hope for healing or over coming.  In a nutshell I have held onto even the bad episodes in a weird psycho babble comfort blanket way. It has become part of who "I am " and that is not how I see myself! So, I need to burn it, drop it, accept it for what it was, and move on. And well, the story of Alexander the great telling his captains to burn their boats just fits in so well with what I aim and need to do to get back the self I seemed to have lost along the rubble.

Short story long, I am feeling exactly what you have written here =) And thank you.

Burning the boats? No me. Too chicken. by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #8 Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 11:43:05 AM EST
But then again, burning the boats translates into something more like "the final solution" on a personal level for me right now.

Some think that the internet is full of people pretending to be something they aren't.

For the most part, I believe that folks are what they claim online. So you really exist in my reality.

OK- by moonvine (4.00 / 2) #33 Sat Jan 05, 2008 at 08:48:31 AM EST
That wasn't a come on to you. The fires are the ones you start. The fires you start are mainly to purify yourself of past wounds and to begin anew. It has nothing to do with the other person, what they are like, do, or expects to/from you. It is just for yourself! Nobody can put out your fires, only you can! Know this. What you will be burning are the feelings/perceptions that were causing you to lose sight of the amazing present that is contained in yourself and the endless possibilities to the future. Why would you want to be mired and stuck in the past? Especially where the outcomes are already known, by definition of it being  already being "past' ?

Start over. Fresh. New. A new year is as good as any. Try to let go of the bitterness you may be feeling towards someone else. Let it all go, and say "I set you free. Go in peace." Sublimate that negative all consuming energy instead to something creative and powerful for yourself. Heal thyself. You just have to change the direction of your energies.

I hope I am making some sense. Trust me, I know this is a difficult time, but our minds and bodies that we have been given are amazing and powerful helpers. Allow your self to help yourself =) You can message me anytime, my open hand to you is sincere.

Good luck.

Sounds like the definition of Cougar to me, so you can't deny it. Revel in it, because it's your desire.

Now I'm off to the library, because I have better things to do at the moment.

all of my hard won bridges. You are spot on, as always.

But the boats? As Alexander once said, "Burn em! Make sure you have no way to retreat the island- you must forge ahead and vanquish your enemies! You have no other choice. Go!"

This is my aim. Thank you =)

I'd never googled "moonvine" either :)

So you're starting the new year by burning off connections to parts of what you used to be and people you never were -- sounds like an excellent plan. To 2008!
